The Venue
Stauning Distillery was created in 2005 by nine Danish friends from diverse backgrounds: one pilot, one chef, one butcher, one doctor, one teacher and four engineers. From its inception, Stauning has celebrated both old and new world approaches to whisky-making. The distillery continues to be defined by playfulness and daring, exploring the craft’s traditions while pushing it to its limits – in much the same way as the famed New Nordic movement is doing with food and food culture.
With its dramatic silhouette and innovative engineering, the brand new, custom-designed Stauning Distillery on Denmark’s rugged west coast has already become an icon of Danish design. And this combination of provenance, functional simplicity and rigorous innovation is reflected in the liquid they produce.
All Stauning whiskies are made using only local Danish grain, which is floor-malted on-site and distilled in 24 directly-heated small 2000 litre copper pot stills. This process creates whiskies whose deep flavours reflect the surrounding landscape of the distillery’s striking west coast – distinct grain aromas, fragrant smoke, and notes of flowers and fruit.
Stauning offers a full range of distinctive flavour explorations, from the spicy yet accessible RYE to the softly peated KAOS, and the bolder SMOKED whiskies for the more peat-eager fans.
Celebrating creative exploration of both process and flavour, Stauning whiskies appeal to those on the hunt for innovation and new flavour experience.
